Fear and angst, I will paint it...

I have angst as I write this blog but I want to. I feel like I am finding a new voice.
I just finished reading Kelly Berkey's blog about how she yearns to be better and create what she has in her head onto her canvas.

Arist have that internal urge, that need to create as much as we need air. As Kelly says not for fame or more sales but to get what is inside of us OUT. Her words finally made me see what I have been avoiding in my own work. I thought about it with every canvas I painted, but pushed it aside. It was the need to paint some of the grey times in my life that have shaped me into who I am. I avoid calling them dark times because they are what they are and they make me who I am. Not all artist feel the need to do this but I know I do. I'm still not sure how to convey this on canvas but I know I will try. ( I think that is just fear speaking) I am feeling a great urge to tell stories with my art, good and bad. It may not even be evident to those who look at it but I will know, and that is what matters.

This is what is so wonderful about this blogging world of creators. They inspire and open up doors and windows to our own creativity. Kelly's latest blog has done that for me. I bet it will wake up something in you too. Thanks Kelly.

I hope this will help those of you who have been searching to do better and by that I mean to be able to create what is truly in your soul..Good, Bad or Ugly.

Now to push that button and post this is the first step for me.

  1. You can paint whatever you like Joji. Ugly memories , in art, usually won't sell. But, it will help ALL of your work when you do so. Art is how you express yourself, go for it. take care ! Gina

  2. I always hope that when I look at an Artists creation that I am glimpsing a piece of their soul. For me art is the soul of an artist that we could otherwise never see.

  3. The way I look at it Joji, everything we put on canvas comes from within, be it good or bad. I always try to tell a story with my work. In fact whatever I am painting tells a short story of something or other. I want them to be alive. Your work is great! Have a great holiday weekend.

  4. I'm in there with you girl.....I really like to tell a story with whatever art I am creating but often shy away from things that are negative honestly because I am concerned it will not be received well...sometimes I do and just don' show it...but you're right all we do is part of who we are and I should have the thinking of well if they like it OK and if they don't that's OK too.....

Thanks for making me think today....Hugs

  5. Art journaling makes me feel good. Good to get it out. Good to say what I feel and slobber paint with my fingers. Good to spray and stencil and scribble and doodle. Lots of words or just one. I guess they can look "ugly" but what goes into them is....me. I never feel as good on a day when I can't journal or create, I do know that. Thank you for this post, and for your art!

  6. You go for it and whatever comes out is good. We are all made up of the good and bad experiences and that makes us who we are. If it is a genuine feeling and experience then that can be beautiful even if it is painful.

  7. I agree with Jeanne--I love to see the artist's soul in a painting--they're showing a part of themselves that they may not have ever expressed openly--so paint what's in your heart.

  8. Hi Joji! Glad to have found your blog! Your art is wonderful! I follow Kelly's blog and that post touched me as well. Although I am new to this creative journey I could relate to her feelings. I sometimes stop myself from pouring out dark stuff although I know it is a way to get emotions out. I am sure that stems from fear. You and Kelly have inspired me to let it all hang out! Looking forward to following your work! :)

  9. Yes! You are only here for a very short while! Express your inner self! Sounds silly.. Do half of the usual...and do half of the inner stuff..and see if it flies....do it for you..and who cares about the rest...Lol!

  11. Joji,
Beautiful post. Thanks so much for mentioning me. I'm so glad I'm not alone in this journey and that my opening up has helped you find a way to push through that fear and create what's inside you.

I hope to one day be half the artist you already are:-)

Hugs to you my sweet friend!
